Recent advances and perspectives of the high precision laser metrology / Batusov, V (Dubna, JINR) ; Budagov, J (Dubna, JINR) ; Glagolev, V (Dubna, JINR) ; Lyablin, M (Dubna, JINR) ; Shirkov, G (Dubna, JINR) ; Gayde, J Ch (CERN) ; Di Girolamo, B (CERN) ; Mainaud Durand, H (CERN) ; Mergelkuhl, D (CERN) ; Nessi, M (CERN) et al.
The laser-based metrology presents new means and opens possibilities in solving tasks where achievement of a high precision survey is of the principal signiˇcance necessity. The extended laser ˇducial line (coordinate axis) is necessary for precision alignment of basic structure units of large-scale accelerators, for precision assembly of subdetectors when mounting large spectrometric complexes, for online control of space stability of particle detectors during the data taking period. The high sensitivity laser inclinometers open the new possibilities for ground motion control and for accelerator (collider) beam space stabilization essential for achievement of stable high intensity (luminosity) at the interaction area. The investigation has been performed at the Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems, JINR..

Radiation Protection at the Large Hadron Collider: Problematics, Challenges and Advanced Monte Carlo Simulation Techniques / Infantino, Angelo (CERN) ; Björkman, Daniel (CERN) ; Elie, Lucie (CERN) ; Maietta, Maddalena (CERN) ; Tromel, Christophe (CERN) ; Vincke, Heinz (CERN)
This paper provides an overview of the problems, challenges, and the advanced simulation techniques used to study and plan complex interventions in radiation areas at CERNs Large Hadron Collider and its future upgrade to the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider. The operational radiation protection aspects are supported by state of the art simulations by means of the FLUKA Monte Carlo code and estimates conducted via other tools such as ActiWiz and SESAME, used within the HSE-RP group..

Double phase transition numerical modeling of superfluid helium for fixed non-uniform grids / Vitrano, Andrea (U. Paris-Saclay ; CERN) ; Baudouy, Bertrand (U. Paris-Saclay)
A thermo-fluid dynamic numerical model for the simulation of the first-order and second-order phase transitions in superfluid helium (He II) is presented. The model is based on a Finite Volume Method algorithm for transient multidimensional problems [...]

Integrated stratigraphic, sedimentological and petrographical evaluation for CERN’s Future Circular Collider subsurface infrastructure (Geneva Basin, Switzerland-France) / Haas, Maximilian (CERN ; Geneva U.) ; Carraro, Davide (Geneva U.) ; Ventra, Dario (Geneva U.) ; Plötze, Michael (Zurich, ETH) ; De Haller, Antoine (Geneva U.) ; Moscariello, Andrea (Geneva U.)
AbstractThe European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) is currently undertaking a feasibility study to build the next-generation particle accelerator, named the Future Circular Collider (FCC), hosted in a 90–100 km subsurface infrastructure in the Geneva Basin, extending across western Switzerland and adjacent France. This article represents a preliminary, basin-scale stratigraphic and lithotype analysis using state-of-the-art Swiss and French stratigraphic terminology, set in context with the FCC. [...]

Simulated Behavior of CNT Wires Irradiated in the HiRadMat Experimental Line at CERN / Mariet, Alexandre (CERN) ; Devel, Michel (FEMTO-ST) ; Groetz, Jean-Emmanuel (Chrono-environ., Besancon) ; Mikhalchan, Anastasiia (Unlisted, ES) ; Moser, Benjamin (CERN) ; Veness, Raymond (CERN) ; Vilatela, Juan Jose (Unlisted, ES)
With the planned increase of luminosity at CERN for HL-LHC and FCC, instruments for beam quality control must meet new challenges. The current wires, made up of plain carbon fibers and gold-plated tungsten would be damaged due to their interactions with the higher luminosity beams. [...]

Fast Spill Monitor Studies for the SPS Fixed Target Beams / Roncarolo, Federico (CERN) ; Arrutia Sota, Pablo Andreas (CERN) ; Belohrad, David (CERN) ; Bergamaschi, Michele (CERN) ; Calvo Giraldo, Eva (CERN) ; Effinger, Ewald (CERN) ; Fraser, Matthew (CERN) ; Kain, Verena (CERN) ; Martin Nieto, Miguel (CERN) ; Mazzoni, Stefano (CERN) et al.
At the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) the proton beam is supplied to the fixed target experiments in the North Area facility (NA) via a slow extraction process, taking place at 400 GeV. The monitoring of the spill quality during the extraction, lasting 4.8 seconds with the present SPS setup, is of high interest for minimising beam losses and providing the users with uniform proton-on-target rates. The Diamond Beam Loss Monitoring System at CERN LHC and SPS / Calvo Giraldo, Eva (CERN) ; Effinger, Ewald (CERN) ; Gonzalez Berges, Manuel (CERN) ; Kral, Jiri (Prague, Tech. U.) ; Martínez Samblas, Javier (CERN) ; Morales Vigo, Sara (CERN) ; Salvachúa, Belen (CERN) ; Zamantzas, Christos (CERN)
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) accelerators are equipped with 17 pCVD diamond based Beam Loss detectors at strategical locations where their nanosecond resolution can provide insights into the loss mechanisms and complement the information of the standard ionization chamber type detectors. They are used at the injection and extraction lines of the LHC and SPS, to analyse the injection or extraction efficiency, and to verify the timing alignment of other elements like kicker magnets.
