Abstract: This note describes the calculations leading to the design specifications and location of the photon dump in the ILC positron source system. The dump is a 1 m diameter, 1.5 m long water tank, pressurized to 10 bar, containing a 0.5 m rear compartment of water-cooled copper plates or a packed bed of water-cooled copper spheres. It must be located approximately 700 m from the center of the helical undulator.
