Understanding Cosmic Rays and Gamma-Ray Bursts
/ De Rujula, Alvaro (speaker) (Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (ES))
The funding document of CERN states that its two main missions are: “The construction of one or more labs for research in High Energy Physics… including work in the field of cosmic rays”. The second mission has been accomplished: AMS and ALICE have made decisive observations, and we now have a successful theory of Cosmic Rays and Gamma-Ray Bursts. The evidence presented in the talk has not been accepted by the community, for reasons and in ways that I shall outline.

Synchrotron X-ray radiation damage in protein structure determination: why do we care?
/ Garman, Elspeth (speaker) (Oxford University)
Structural biology relies on X-ray crystallography to provide much of the three-dimensional information on macromolecules (proteins, DNA, RNA) that informs biological function. Our research focusses on developing improved methods for macromolecular crystallography (MX) to enable problems not previously accessible to structure solution to be tackled [...]

Physics in the abyss with KM3NeT: from cosmic rays to neutrino oscillations
/ Coyle, Paschal Anthony (speaker) (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (FR))
The Kilometre cube neutrino telescope (KM3NeT) is a deep-sea neutrino telescope currently under construction in the Mediterranean Sea. Its main goals are the search for astrophysical sources of high energy cosmic neutrinos and the study of neutrino oscillation phenomena with atmospheric neutrinos [...]

Superintelligent Agents Pose Catastrophic Risks: Can Scientist AI Offer a Safer Path?
/ Bengio, Yoshua (speaker) (Université de Montreal)
The leading AI companies are increasingly focused on building generalist AI agents — systems that can autonomously plan, act, and pursue goals across almost all tasks that humans can perform. Despite how useful these systems might be, unchecked AI agency poses significant risks to public safety and security, ranging from misuse by malicious actors to a potentially irreversible loss of human control [...]

A Quantum Leap in Quantum Information: Quantum computing, simulation, communication and metrology with quantum optical platforms
/ Zoller, Peter (speaker) (Institute for Theoretical Physics, University of Innsbruck, and IQOQI, Austrian Academy of Sciences, Innsbruck, Austria)
On a microscopic scale, our world is governed by quantum physics. Beyond the fundamental questions and 'mysteries' of quantum mechanics, the ability to control this microscopic realm opens up exciting opportunities for new applications and quantum technologies—potentially more powerful than their classical counterparts [...]

Click Chemistry, Excellence and Equality in Science
/ Meldal, Morten (speaker) (University of Copenhagen, DK) ; St. Hilaire, Phaedria Marie (speaker) (P M Consulting, DK)
Humans are changing the structure and chemical composition of the world we live in at historically unprecedented rates, leading to major global challenges. There is a great need for the creation and dissemination of scientific knowledge within a diverse and equitable environment to be able to solve these global challenges [...]

Is dark energy weakening?
/ Palanque-Delabrouille, Nathalie (speaker) (LBNL, US)
Making up 70% of the universe and responsible for its accelerated expansion, Dark energy is the biggest mystery in cosmology. A simple model where dark energy is described as a cosmological constant explains most of the observations of the past 20 years [...]

The Copernican Revolution, and how it almost became unnoticed and forgotten
/ Roszkowski, Leszek (speaker) (Astrocent at the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences and National Centre for Nuclear Research, Poland)
The Copernican Revolution — the heliocentric model of the Universe introduced by Nicolaus Copernicus — is considered as one of the most significant achievements in the history of science. And yet, it luckily happened despite many obstacles and even then it could have become unnoticed and forgotten [...]

Quantum Gravity and Predictions for our Universe
/ Vafa, Cumrun (speaker) (Harvard University)
In this talk I provide an executive summary of some of the recent progress that has been made in understanding some key features of quantum gravitational theories. This is rooted in lessons learned from the landscape of consistent solutions to string theory and captured by the principles of the Swampland program [...]
