Characterization of the FBK-LGAD devices manufactured at an external foundry for large-volume productions / CMS Collaboration
In recent years, the HEP detector community has shown an increasing interest in Low Gain Avalanche Diodes (LGADs) due to their excellent temporal resolution, good radiation resistance, and low material budget. An example of this is the upcoming CMS Endcap Timing Layer (ETL), a subdetector which will feature four disks (14 m$^{2}$) covered with these devices.In this context, Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK), one of the qualified producers of the ETL LGAD sensors, has recently initiated a technology transfer of the FBK-LGAD technology to an external CMOS foundry (LFoundry) in order to enable a larger and cost-effective production.The first prototype run from LFoundry was produced in May 2024. Search for Quasiparticle Scattering in the Quark-Gluon Plasma with Jet Splittings in pp and Pb-Pb Collisions at sNN=5.02  TeV / ALICE Collaboration
The ALICE Collaboration reports measurements of the large relative transverse momentum (kT) component of jet substructure in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair sNN=5.02  TeV. High dielectric strength, low thermal resistance and mechanical robustness are conflicting requirements on the insulation system between the superconductors in magnet coils and the quench heaters placed on the coil for active protection in case of a quench. To investigate possibilities to further improve the performance of quench heaters for future superconducting magnets, we have characterised polyimide, PEEK and fibre reinforced PEEK films that can be used to produce large flexibly quench heater circuits. The electrical insulation system in wind-and-react Nb3Sn superconducting magnets must be robust, such that it can sustain the mechanical stresses, high radiation doses, and thermal cycles involved in the operation of the magnets.
