Neutron spectra from photonuclear reactions: Performance testing of Monte-Carlo particle transport simulation codes
/ Blideanu, V (U. Paris-Saclay) ; Besnard-Vauterin, C (U. Paris-Saclay) ; Horváth, D (Unlisted, CZ) ; Lefebvre, B (Unlisted, CZ) ; Salvat-Pujol, F (CERN) ; Versaci, R (Unlisted, CZ)
The production of neutrons in photon-induced nuclear reactions in the giant-dipole-resonance energy domain remains a topic of high interest for various applications, including the activation and decommissioning of electron accelerator facilities, the detection of illicit materials for homeland security, and the evaluation of neutron dose received by patients during radiotherapy treatments. General-purpose Monte-Carlo (MC) simulation codes for particle transport are intensively used to account for photoneutron production in these applications. [...]

Highly Luminous Scintillating Nanocomposites Enable Ultrafast Time Coincidence Resolution for γ‐rays Detection with Heterostructured Multilayer Scintillators
/ Sala, Matteo (Milan Bicocca U.) ; Orfano, Matteo (Milan Bicocca U.) ; Secchi, Valeria (Milan Bicocca U.) ; Mattei, Ilaria (INFN, Milan) ; Pianta, Nicolò (Milan Bicocca U.) ; Zabloudil, Vojtech (CERN) ; Lowis, Carsten (CERN) ; Kučerková, Romana (Prague, Inst. Phys.) ; Nikl, Martin (Prague, Inst. Phys.) ; Meinardi, Francesco (Milan Bicocca U.) et al.
AbstractBrighter fast scintillators are needed for advanced applications to acquire data with high signal‐to‐noise ratio in short time windows, like in the time‐of‐flight positron emission tomography (ToF‐PET) imaging technique for cancer. A new composite polymeric fast scintillator loaded with high‐density hafnium dioxide (HfO2, hafnia) nanoparticles is developed here to be used for detection of the 511 keV γ‐rays employed in ToF‐PET. Primary and secondary scintillation of CF4-based mixtures in low-pressure gaseous detectors
/ Brunbauer, F M (CERN) ; Amedo, P (Santiago de Compostela U., IGFAE) ; Flöthner, K J (CERN ; Bonn U.) ; Gonzalez Diaz, D (Santiago de Compostela U., IGFAE) ; Janssens, D (CERN) ; Leardini, S (Santiago de Compostela U., IGFAE) ; Lisowska, M (CERN) ; Müller, H (CERN ; Bonn U.) ; Oliveri, E (CERN) ; Orlandini, G (CERN) et al.
Optical readout of micro-pattern gaseous detectors relies on recording scintillation light emitted during electron avalanche multiplication with imaging sensors of high-granularity pixelated readout. It can be used in applications such as optical Time Projection Chambers for track reconstruction, low material budget beam monitoring or radiography, to name but a few. [...]

System-Level Total Ionizing Dose Testing of Satellite Subsystems: EagleEye Microsatellite Case Study
/ Rajkowski, Tomasz (NCBJ, Swierk) ; Pustułka, Przemysław (Unlisted, PL) ; Bieda, Marcin (Unlisted, PL) ; Ślasa, Sylwia (Unlisted, PL) ; Kazaniecki, Michał (Unlisted, PL) ; Myszka, Kamil (Unlisted, PL) ; Szczygielski, Mateusz (Unlisted, PL) ; Iwaszkiewicz, Jarosław (Unlisted, PL) ; Traczyk, Konrad (Unlisted, PL) ; Tarenko, Kamil (Unlisted, PL) et al.
A system-level total ionizing dose test method of satellite subsystems is discussed in the context of the radiation qualification of a satellite. System-level tests are performed with high-energy X-rays, and the irradiation results of the key subsystems, including the on-board computer, attitude- and orbit-control-system computer, and battery management system, are presented and analyzed in terms of the repeatability of the results, the observability issues, and the importance of the test conditions. Abstract
Electron clouds hinder the operation of particle accelerators. In the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the copper beam screens are located within close proximity to the beam path, resulting in beam-induced electron multipacting, which is the main source of electron cloud formation. [...]
