Transition Crossing by Means of Stable Islands / Wang, Sabrina (Imperial College London/EPFL)
The phenomenom of transition energy crossing might generate adverse effects to the quality of charged-particle beams in circular accelerators that is hard to avoid, and has been known to introduce potentially adverse disturbance to the longitudinal dynamics of a beam of charged particles. A novel method to cross the transition energy using non-linear magnets is simulated in this project on a realistic lattice of the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS). [...]

II.17 - Physics and accelerators for particle therapy / Schippers, Jacobus Maarten (PSI, Villigen ; UMCG)
At the Paul Scherer Institute (PSI) radiation therapy is performed by means of proton beams. Proton therapy is one of the particle therapies, in which energetic ions (mostly protons and carbon ions) are used to treat cancer patient by irradiating the tumor with high precision. [...]

II.18 - Life-cycle and operability of particle accelerators / Meyroneinc, Samuel (Inst. Curie, Paris)
Particle accelerators are used to generate particle beams for different kinds of use. Operability must be easy and simple for an industrial version with a high Technological Readiness Level (TRL), or complex and critical for large single accelerators designed for new research objectives. [...]

Measurement of Thermal Conductivity of High-Temperature Superconducting Tapes under Cryogenic Conditions / Wuestner, Luis Alexander (Universitaet Stuttgart (DE))
In high-energy particle accelerators such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, reducing the secondary electron yield (SEY) of the beam screen is becoming increas-ingly important, as electron cloud formation caused by synchrotron radiation can affect beam stability and increase the cryogenic load. One promising solution is to coat the beam screen with high temperature superconducting (HTS) materials such as rare earth barium copper oxide (ReBCO), which is characterized by inherently low SEY and high radiation tolerance. Estimates of Particles on Target for Future Ion Experiments in the SPS North Area / Prebibaj, Tirsi (CERN) ; Ahdida, Claudia (CERN) ; Alemany Fernandez, Reyes (CERN) ; Arduini, Gianluigi (CERN) ; Arrutia, Pablo (CERN) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) ; Charitonidis, Nikolaos (CERN) ; Van Dijk, Maarten (CERN)
The CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) delivers ion beams to the North Area typically over a period of four weeks per year. Currently, NA61/SHINE is the only fixed target ion experiment in Experimental Hall North Area 1 (EHN1), continuing until Long Shutdown 3 (LS3). [...]
