2nd Series on Data Protection - Control your data on the Web: An introduction to Solid and Linked Data / Dedecker, Ruben (speaker) (Ghent University)
Abstract: The Web is dominated by platforms providing functionality from Social Networking to Video streaming and Web Shopping. Using these platforms on a daily basis, we often forget the vast amount of data collected, stored and used, while that data could be useful for other applications as well [...]

2nd Series on Data Protection - Exploring Scholarly Communication Using The Decentralized Web / Hochstenbach, Patrick (speaker)
AbstractIn this lecture we present a new approach to assemble the scholarly record of researchers using a decentralized architecture for generating, propagating and notification of artifact lifecycle information in scholarly networks. Scholarly artifacts go through many stages from the creation of artifacts, through the registration of these artifacts in repositories, requesting certification at a publisher websites where they will be peer-reviewed and eventually published, to the archivation in a (web) archive [...]

Non-conventional radionuclides in personalised medicine / Stora, Thierry (speaker) (CERN)
Abstract:Nuclear Medicine, and more particularly the so-called theranostics approach based on the combination of diagnostics and treatment drugs, has seen recent breakthroughs, originating from radionuclides made newly available notably for European academic and industrial R&D scientists.A striking example is the use of targeted radiopharmaceuticals directed to the Prostate Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA) and Somatostatin Receptor targeted therapy with 177Lu beta-emitter. Alpha-emitting radionuclides have also been applied successfully in research and clinic. [...]

Laser resonance ionization at ISOL facilities / Marsh, Bruce (speaker) (CERN)
Abstract:Radioisotopes science is a broad-reaching field encompassing topics such as atomic and nuclear physics, astrophysics, medical applications and material science.  Although some radioisotopes are naturally occurring on Earth the vast majority are available to us exclusively via artificial production in nuclear reactions [...]

Principles of radioisotope production with ISOL techniques, materials and ion sources / Rothe, Sebastian (speaker) (CERN)
Abstract: The ISOLDE radioactive isotope facility has been providing rare isotopes to users from around the world since more than 50 years, making it the oldest running experiment at CERN and is considered the mother of ISOL type facilities. In the ISOL method, a target is irradiated with a primary beam, creating secondary radioactive isotopes which are evaporated from the target matrix, extracted as ions, purified and then delivered in form of a beam of ions to the experimental setup. The interest of the scientists requesting these isotopes ranges from fundamental nuclear structure and nuclear astrophysics, over solid state physics and semiconductor research to medical applications. At ISOLDE over 1000 different radioisotopes of the 6000 that are predicted to exist In this lecture we will introduce how isotopes are artificially created and delivered to users at ISOLDE.  We will discuss the constraints and requirements to the target materials and ion source selection, illustrated by several use cases We will highlighting current developments towards tailor-made nano-structured target materials and ongoing target and ion source developments required to meet the demands of the user community for more exotic isotopes and purer beams. The following two lectures will focus on selective laser photoionization used to produce purest radioisotope beams and application of radioisotopes for nuclear medicine..

1st series on Data Protection - Technology Is Not Neutral: a short guide to technology ethics - Lecture 2 / Hare, Stephanie (speaker)
Technology ethics explores a question that no one has been able to answer to anyone's satisfaction: how can we create and use technologies that maximise benefits and minimise harm? This two-day lecture series will demonstrate how philosophy is a powerful tool that we can use to make and use technology more ethically. On the second day, we will practice putting technology ethics into action by considering technologies that are used today for their undeniable benefits -- yet which pose serious ethical problems that we cannot afford to ignore. We will diagnose their risks and opportunities and propose solutions, drawing on examples that range from the surprisingly straightforward to those which do not have one solution or cannot be solved only once.Lecturer's bio: Stephanie Hare is a researcher, broadcaster and author focused on technology, politics and history [...]

1st series on Data Protection - Technology Is Not Neutral: a short guide to technology ethics - Lecture 1 / Hare, Stephanie (speaker)
Technology ethics explores a question that no one has been able to answer to anyone's satisfaction: how can we create and use technologies that maximise benefits and minimise harm? This two-day lecture series will demonstrate how philosophy is a powerful tool that we can use to make and use technology more ethically. On this first day, we will consider the question "Is technology neutral?" and examine a debate between various experts who take different sides on this question. Our aim is not to agree with them (or even with each other!) but rather to map out the different ways we can answer the question and apply it to our lives. Lecturer's bio: Stephanie Hare is a researcher, broadcaster and author focused on technology, politics and history [...]
